The Quarts de Chaume
A Great Wine of the World
By Jean BAUMARD
This book aims to defend a wine appreciated throughout the world and known as one of the great names of the French vineyard: the QUARTS DE CHAUME.
Its long history evokes facts which are at the basis of the historical appellations of our country. It is recounted in these pages by Jean Baumard, the oldest and only permanent player in this vineyard since 1954, the date of the decree of the "Quarts de Chaume" Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (A.O.C.).
The historical terroir of Chaume is solely that of the Quarts de Chaume appellation, from its origins and throughout history.
Do we have the right to ignore this and henceforth attribute the name of Chaume, used alone, to a different territory which will thus unduly appropriate the name of a historic terroir?
In the current context of globalisation, in order not to turn away from French wines, foreign consumers need clarity and truth. The name of an AOC must be legitimate.
